The English Reading Festival for young readers serves as a significant catalyst for enhancing literacy and fostering a vibrant reading culture in schools.
On 10th August 2024, the excitement at DPS Surat was palpable as Class 1 students and their parents gathered for the Annual English Reading Festival- ‘Little Readers’ Carnival’. The theme for this year’s Reading Festival was ‘Hobbies’. The event, designed to spark a love for reading while connecting literature to students’ hobbies, turned out to be a resounding success.
The event started with the Principal, Mr. V. Vamshi Krishna’s informative address. Mr. Krishna accentuated the need and importance of reading for the students. With a detailed presentation, he elucidated the underlying science governing the reading process, which is a multifaceted interplay of neurological, linguistic, and cognitive processes.
The school’s hallways and classrooms were transformed into a vibrant celebration of literature and a dynamic exploration of hobbies like cooking, crafts, gardening, music and gaming. The important skills and concepts like reading, comprehending, tenses and articles were deftly woven with the hobbies.
The ‘Little Readers’ Carnival’ not only served to enhance reading skills but also encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of reading. Through such interactive events, students are provided with a unique platform to engage with literature beyond the confines of traditional classroom instruction.
