"Every stroke of tradition tells a timeless story"

On 24th October 2024, DPS Surat embraced the beauty of heritage with an Inter-House Rangoli Competition for classes VII and VIII, where the exquisite Mandna art took the centre stage. In celebration of Diwali, students from each house channelled the spirit of this ancient craft, creating breathtaking designs that blended history, culture, and devotion. Rooted in the folk traditions of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Mandana is more than just floor art—it’s a symbol of protection and divine welcome. The participants prepared the rangoli using red ochre and clay, skilfully crafting motifs of Ganesha, peacocks, and tigers using lime and chalk powder. With humble tools—cotton, white pens and rudimentary brushes—they brought to life intricate patterns, each stroke reflecting the authenticity of this timeless tradition. The vivid hues of red mud and chalk paste infused a festive vibrancy, turning the competition
into a visual feast and a beautiful homage to India's cultural richness.
