4 th and 5 th October 2024, Delhi Public School Surat hosted a Gerrald Martin’s webinar, on "Snakes Around Us," for Class 9 which offered a detailed exploration of various snake species, their ecological roles, and conservation efforts. ‘The Gerry Martin Project’ – a company that focuses on enabling environmental and wildlife research and conservation highlighted the diversity of snakes, their importance in ecosystems, and debunked common myths, promoting a more positive perception. Interactive to the most delicate degree, his words wove an intricate tapestry of information regarding the serpents that are demonized by people. The webinar effectively educated students on the significance of snakes; differentiation between venomous and non-venomous snakes; reptile behaviour and warning signs; snake bite, its mitigation and first aid; nutrition, feeding and reproduction of snakes and fostered a sense of responsibility towards wildlife conservation making it a valuable experience for all involved. Overall, the session emphasized conservation initiatives and encouraged audience participation in local efforts. An engaging Q & A allowed attendees to ask about specific species and safe practices for encounters.
