Strength Amidst Chaos: A Tale of Survival
"Out of difficulties grow miracles"
The quote stands quite true for Mr. Jude Fernando, our Level Head, whose remarkable story of survival against nature’s fury left us in awe. On 2 July 2024, a picturesque morning with the sky draped in clouds, Class VIII students gathered in to hear an extraordinary account of resilience and strength. The session began by recounting the events of December 26, 2004, when a massive earthquake triggered a devastating tsunami. Vacationing in Tamil Nadu, he described how the serene coastline transformed into a scene of chaos and destruction. The sudden rise of the sea, the panic, and the relentless force of the waves were vividly portrayed, painting a picture of nature’s unimaginable power. Despite the tragedy, the message was one of hope. His survival according to him was miraculous. Through his experiences, he imparted profound lessons on humanity emphasising that natural calamities do not discriminate. In the face of such disasters, whether rich or poor, all stand as equals. This realisation urged us to appreciate life’s fragility and the importance of empathy and solidarity. The session concluded with questioning where students posed insightful questions about his experiences and the broader implications of natural disasters. His story, a firsthand account of surviving a major historical event, imparted enduring life lessons that will remain with us for the years to come.
