Dairy Dynamics: Field Trip to Sumul Dairy
Milk, often hailed as nature's most complete food, plays a crucial role in our daily nutrition and overall health. Our recent field trip to Sumul Dairy for class VIII students from 24 June 2024 to 26 June 2024 provided a comprehensive look into the journey of milk from local farms to our tables. At the Milk Collection Centre, they observed the meticulous collection and preliminary quality testing of milk from local farmers. The Quality Control Laboratory showcased advanced procedures for ensuring the purity and quality of the milk. In the Processing Plant, students witnessed the crucial stages of pasteurisation, homogenisation, and packaging, which helps maintain the milk's safety and consistency. The Product Development section and the Cold Storage facilities provided insights into the techniques used to package various dairy products and the significance of proper refrigeration for preserving product quality and extending shelf life. Additionally, interactions with the dairy staff and discussions on sustainability practices offered a deeper understanding of daily operations and highlighted Sumul Dairy's commitment to environmentally responsible practices. The field trip not only enriched the student's theoretical knowledge but also provided a practical perspective on the dairy industry's multifaceted operations.
