Grade XII Science students embarked on a field visit to WAAREE Energies Ltd, a solar panel manufacturing unit on 6 April 2024. This intriguing trip aimed at allowing the curious students to gain detailed insights into the invigorating world of green energy and understand the bewildering science behind it. Under the supervision of Mr. Vishal Upadhyay, the General Manager of WAAREE Energies Ltd., the students were given a detailed explanation of the manufacturing process of solar panels. They learnt that before the manufacturing process, all the incoming materials are thoroughly inspected through various processes that include cell efficiency test, UV protector test, IP67/68 tests, and climate simulator test, among others. The entire process was shown to the students and explained in detail. The key highlight of the visit was the practical understanding of the usage of tetravalent and pentavalent elements, like Aluminum and Phosphorus, with semi-conducting materials in the solar cell to form P-N or N-P-N junctions, amongst others. In an effort to inspire students to take up their own personal solar projects, they were also introduced to WAAREE Energies’ under development projects such as Zomato-collated solar powered food delivery boxes, Merlin Technology infused flexible solar panels and highly efficient Perovskite solar cells, currently being lab-tested in IIT Roorkee.
Overall, the educational and insightful field visit to WAAREE Energies Ltd. stimulated the young minds and motivated them to bring about a reviving change to our despairing energy ecosystem through the utilisation of green energy technologies.
