The Grade XII Commerce and Humanities students embarked on a field visit to SGPPL, Surat Green Precast Pvt. Ltd., a construction and demolition waste management plant, to gain insights into the process of waste management in the construction industry. The visit, held from 26 March 2024 to 28 March 2024, aimed to provide students with practical knowledge about the sustainable practices adopted by industries to minimize environmental impact. The students were given a detailed explanation of the process, starting from the collection of construction waste to the final product. The facility collects waste materials such as concrete, bricks, and stones, which are then sorted and crushed to produce fine sand. One of the key highlights of the visit was the treatment of the sand with soft water. This process helps in removing impurities and ensuring that the sand meets the required quality standards for use in construction projects. The treated sand is eco-friendly and reduces the dependence on natural sand extracted from beaches, thereby contributing to environmental conservation efforts. The facility also manufactures sand blocks, which are used by tool-making factories in Baroda. The students were shown samples of these blocks and were explained their utility in the construction industry. The field visit provided the students with a practical understanding of waste management in the construction sector. It broadened their perspective on environmental sustainability and encouraged them to explore more eco-friendly practices in future.
