On 7 September, the students of Humanities stream visited clinics of three eminent psychologists in Surat. The first leg of the educational experience began at clinic ‘SPARSH’ under the guidance of Mr. Murtuza Railwaywala. He briefed students about therapeutic approaches, various intelligence tests and introduced the concept of learning disabilities (LD). Later the students visited ‘Urja Counselling Clinic’ run by Mrs. Bhavna Raja. She discussed various career opportunities and advised students to take up internship and focus on the smaller details like the importance of ambience and comfort to establish a fruitful rapport with the clients. The field trip was concluded with the visit to ‘Psy-lens’ run by Dr. Sudipta Roy who helped students gain experience by observing the remedial classes of LDs and thereby helped the students link their curriculum with practical testing. The students also visited school of specially abled children, ‘Shree Nandan’, where they met children who were in different stages of retardation: mild, moderate and high. The students were enlightened by the experience received in the field trip.
